eBay listing grader: what your listing still leaves out

This free eBay listing grader checks one live listing against eBay’s own rules. Paste its item number or link. Each check shows what the listing has and what eBay says, with the item specifics eBay recommends that it leaves empty.

The grade reads the listing’s public page once, as a buyer in the US sees it. Item specifics are checked against eBay’s list for the listing’s category. When eBay does not give us that list, those two checks say “not measured”.

What each check reads

In shortEight checks, each from one of eBay’s own pages. Five have an eBay rule; three show the figure for you to judge.

  • Required item specificseBay’s item description policy says: “When item specifics are required, they must be accurate and filled out completely.” The grade names each empty one, with the values eBay offers for it.
  • Recommended item specificseBay’s listing form shows “a list of item specifics we recommend you add, as buyers frequently search for these details”. The grade counts how many the listing fills and lists the empty ones. A value like “Does not apply” or “Unbranded” counts as filled.
  • Title lengtheBay’s Best Match tips ask for “a clear and concise title with correct spelling and no more than 80 characters”.
  • Brand in the titleThe grade shows whether the brand in the item specifics is also in the title. eBay sets no rule for it, so this one is yours to judge.
  • PhotoseBay lets you add up to 24 pictures for free. Its photo help asks for at least 500 × 500 pixels and recommends about 1600 × 1600. eBay names no number of photos to reach, so the grade shows the count.
  • ConditionThe listing form help says: “Provide a condition for your item such as New, Used, or Refurbished.”
  • Shipping and deliveryThe Best Match tips say: “Include shipping and handling costs”. The grade shows the cost and the delivery estimate eBay prints for a US buyer.
  • ReturnsBest Match weighs “the listing terms of service, such as your return policy and handling time”. eBay does not say which policy ranks higher, so the grade shows the policy as the page states it.

What the grade cannot tell you

In shortIt reads one page. Best Match also weighs what happens after buyers see it.

eBay’s Best Match tips list what its search order weighs. Besides the listing’s quality and its terms, that is “how closely the listing matches the buyer’s search terms”, “how popular the item is”, “the price of the item” and “your track record as a seller”.

A listing page shows none of these. A full grade does not promise a sale. If buyers see the listing and skip it, or open it and leave, the guide to eBay listings that are not selling shows how to read the numbers in Seller Hub.

The grade does not read the description, and it reads the page once. Change the listing on eBay, then grade it again the next day: the same item within a day shows the saved result.

Common questions

How do I check if my eBay listing is good?

Paste its item number into the grader. Fill what it marks to fix, starting with required item specifics. Then watch the listing’s views and sales in Seller Hub.

How long can an eBay title be?

80 characters. eBay’s Best Match tips ask for a clear title with correct spelling and no more than 80 characters.

How many photos can an eBay listing have?

Up to 24, for free. eBay’s photo help asks for at least 500 × 500 pixels and recommends about 1600 × 1600.

What are recommended item specifics on eBay?

The details eBay’s listing form asks you to add beside the required ones, “as buyers frequently search for these details”. The grader lists the empty ones with eBay’s suggested values.

Is this eBay listing grader free?

Yes, with no account. Each connection gets 5 live checks a day, shared with the Amazon to eBay profit calculator and the eBay seller lookup. Grading the same item again within a day shows the saved result and costs none. A result is kept for 30 days, so its link can be shared.
